Item No.: 15 Date: February 12, 2024 <br />Presenter: DJ Goman <br />Presenter: Public Works Superintendent <br />Section:Consent Agenda <br /> <br /> <br />Title: Public Works Maintenance Worker Resignation and Hire of a Full Time Public <br />Works Maintenance Worker. <br /> <br />1.Purpose: <br />The purpose of the action item is to gain authorization to accept the resignation of Public Works <br />Maintenance Employee Scott Lorentz and to then fill the opening with the appointment of Trace <br />Crawford as a full time maintenance worker. <br />2.Background: <br />1. Scott Lorentz was hired in October 2023. He has submitted a letter of resignation. Scotts last <br />day is February 9th, The Public Works department wishes Scott Lorentz the best of luck in <br />all of his future endeavors and for his service to the Cities of Orono and Spring Park. <br />2. The Public Works Department currently has 5 full time as maintenance worker positions <br />with one opening. The maintenance worker positions are critical to meet current service <br />needs and are essential to City operations. <br /> <br />3.Recruitment: <br />The selection process for the position involved advertising the position, application screening, <br />interviews by public works supervisor, maintenance worker staff and practical exercise testing. <br />The process also included a background check. <br />4.Recommended Candidate: <br />Trace Crawford has prior public works experience with Hennepin County. Trace is excited about <br />the opportunity to work for the Orono Public Works Department <br />5.Recommended Compensation: <br />I recommend the hire of Trace Crawford as a full-time public works maintenance worker with an <br />effective start date of February 26, 2024 <br />Salary. Starting rate of $32.08/hour (Grade 7/Step 3 of the IUOE Local 49 Agreement pay scale). <br />Benefits. As a full-time employee she is eligible for benefits as outlined in the IOUE Local 49 <br />Agreement and personnel handbook.
