Included are <br />copies of letters approving the dredging in 1960 (not certified). <br />Enclosed is a rough sketch (not too clear) of the proposed fill area marked with an <br />'T' by the applicants. .Also enclosed is a copy of a portion of the plat map of the <br />area designating the approximate location proposed to be used for the disposal of <br />the spoils as indicated to me by Nfr. Sween on 10-31-77. <br />PLANNING CartlSSION ^lEETING - November 7, 1977 <br />Several members of the Association v.’cre present. Mr. S^ecn acted as the spokesman <br />of the group. He presented copies of t^v’o permits issued in 1960 by the 'Uruicsota <br />Conservation District. <br />Planning Commission review’ed documentation presented to determine wlietlier proposal <br />would qualify as maintenance dredging. Commission appeared to indicate interpreta­ <br />tion as maintenance dredging. <br />The projected location for disposal of spoils was main concern of Commission. Orono <br />has adopted a policy to deny previous applications for disposal of spoils within <br />1,000 ft. of the shoreline. <br />Dr. Wood of the Bn'BI presented his vieAs^s on the proposal. He explained the advantages <br />of the projected >kidcat method of dredging which included removal of accumulated silt <br />only (no hard pan). He also assured the Commission that precautionary measures ivould <br />be taken to prevent siltation of solids and potential damage to the Avater quality of <br />the lake. <br />Planning Comnission tabled application Avith request for soils map and report and <br />detailed plan for dredging and disposal of spoils Avith understanding that spoil disposal <br />would not violate Ordinance #125. Indicated tentative approval of concept. Approval <br />of projected spoils disposal site Avould be determined after careful review of all <br />reports documenting advantages from project and assurance that project Avould not <br />adversely effect the quality of the v;ater. Supendsion of precautionary measures and <br />reports Avould be the responsibility of the FIVBI.
