The soil was foimed in
loany colluviun over calcareous loany till. The soil is nearly level
ocapring dqiressions and drainageways. The native vegetation was
dominantly sedges and wetsite grasses. During wet periods of the
year the watertable is within 1 foot of the surface and ponding may
occur. The high organic matter content in the upper soil horizons
means the soil has low bearing values. There is a high potential
for frost action.
Hamel loam:
Hayden loam:
Jie map sy^l for this soil is Ha and the map color is mediun blue.
This IS a deep, poorly drain^ soil that fotmed in loamy colluvium over
loany till, "nie soil occurs in short, narrow drainageways on foot slopes
and in long winding drainageways between knolls and hills. The native
v^etation was mainly sedges, grasses and scattered poplar trees. During
^ pmods of the year there is a perched watertable within 1 foot of
the surface md poking may occur. The high organic matter content in
the i^per soil horizons means the soil has low bearing values. There is
a high potential for frost action.
This IS a deep, well-drained soil that fomied in loamy glacial till and
occurs on gently sloping to very steep slopes on knolls and hillsides.
strongly influenced by a forest environment in its develop-
ment. ^e natural vegetation was mixed hardwood forest. Shale and lime-
s me ^agments as well as granitic cobbles and boulders are coinnon through
out. Several slope phases are mapped in Hennepin County. Each slope
phase mapped in the area of proposed develoment is
Hayden loam - 2 to 6 percent slope:
IJe map symbol for this soil.is HbB and the map color is medium green.
SSf soil occupying areas on knolls and hillsides.
soil IS well-drained and therefore never saturated although side-
mil seepage is not uncomnon around basement walls during rainy seasons
or spring thaws. The rolling slopes offer attractive building sites.
“ adequate- Shrink-swell (volune change) is low to mod-
erate with changes in moisture content. The soil is moderately perm
eable.
