Nov. 5. 1993 Page Two
I am pleased with a number of the recommendations made by Carl Ohrn, Principal Planner
Metropolitan Council, regarding TH 12. Mr. Ohrn has recommended that this issue should be considered as
the Regional Blueprint moves forward within the Council. A number of subissucs of the TH 12 problem need
to be addressed in a broader context than transportation. This touches on the region’s relationship with the
remainder of Minnesota, economic development of the seven counties and other areas of the state, growth
management and infrastructure investments.
Even more pleasing is the recommendation that an invitation should be extended for a detailed
discussion of the issue between the Council, the Highway 12 Task Force and other concerned groups and
individuals. The subject of this meeting should cover issues of need, design alternatives and fimding sources.
Increa.scd communication between all parties involved has been an issue that I have been strongly puslmig smcc
the beginning of these discussions.
I have discussed these tlndings and recommendations with Ken Warner and we are very hopeful that
ttiU dialogue between members of the Highway 12 Task Force and the Metropolitan council will continue and
increase as the needs and concerns of the task foree are recognized and addressed. A meeting with Carl Ohrn
and the Highway 12 Task Foree members will be arranged and held before the end of the year. Details
regarding the meeting will be provided later.
I would like to thank all of the task force members who sent letters, called or testified before the
Metropolitan Council regarding this very serious issue - our concerns have been heard.
will need to ccotinfc ^he communication that has been established and work toward a uniform
resolution. Please feel free to c intact me at any time with your comments or suggestions for TH 12.
Sincerely,
Tony Onnen
State Representative
District 20B
TO/sb
