REPORT OF THE1992 LAKE ACCESS TASK FORCE STUDY <br />FOR LAKE MINNETONKA <br />July, 1993 Preliminary Draft Outline <br />Basis for Initiating the 1992 Lake Access Task Force Study: <br />A.The Management Plan for Lake Minnetonka, adopted by the <br />Lake Minnetonka Conservation District (LMCD) in October, <br />1991, confirms the following Lake Access Objectives: <br />1.Establish by 1993 criteria for acceptable access <br />including ramps, reliable lakeside and remote parking <br />for car/trailers, handicapped access, appropriately <br />signed. Criteria should provide for: <br />a. Minimizing use of on-street parking <br />Minimizing amount of lake frontage required <br />Control environmental, aesthetic impacts on lake <br />and adjacent properties <br />Minimizing effects on local and neighborhood <br />traffic patterns <br />b. <br />c. <br />d. <br />2. Complete by 1993 a joint study of all access ramps <br />and associated car/trailer parking <br />3.Develop a plan by 1994 for providing LMCD-approved <br />boat access ramps with 700 reliable car/trailer (c/t) <br />parking spaces <br />4.Provide by 1995 a total of 700 reliable boat access <br />c/t parking spaces <br />5.Widen or otherwise improve by 1996 the efficiency <br />of existing ramps for use by more than one <br />car/trailer at a time. <br />B.The Management Plan similarly confirms LAKE ACCESS <br />POLICIES which include: <br />1.The LMCD will cooperate with DNR to establish a plan <br />to ensure the availability of 700 reliable c/t <br />parking spaces and public and private launch tamps. <br />2.Future public access points will utilize remote <br />parking and shuttles as appropriate. <br />3.The LMCD will work to optimize the use of public <br />lands for winter access for all user groups. <br />4.The goal for patking at public ramps will be to <br />provide sufficienc off-street parking in the vicinity <br />that utilizes remote parking facilities, facilitates <br />handicapped access, minimizes on-street parking, lake
