Item No.: 9 Date: January 22, 2024 <br />Presenter: James Van Eyll <br />Presenter: Fire Chief <br />Section:Public Safety Report <br /> <br /> <br />Title: Authorization to hire a part-time firefighter <br /> <br />1.Purpose: <br />The purpose of this action item is to gain approval to hire Part Time Firefighter for Weekday <br />Daytime Duty Crew. <br />2.Background: <br />The Orono Fire Department is currently seeking part time firefighters for our weekday daytime <br />duty crew to cover our Station 2 call area. The selection process for the position involved <br />advertising the position, application screening, and an interview. The interview was conducted by <br />the Fire Chief and other city employees. The applicant must successfully complete a <br />Psychological Exam, a Physical (Pre-employment medical) exam and a probationary period. All <br />applicants will have to pass a background check performed by the Orono Police Department <br />3.Recommended Candidate: <br />Taylor Andres is an experienced firefighter with two other fire departments. Taylor Andres has 4- <br />years of experience, is a Firefighter I and II, and an EMT. She is excited to become a charter <br />member of the Orono Fire Department and looks forward to creating the best department. <br />4.Recommended Compensation: <br />I recommend Taylor Andres a conditional job offer as part time firefighter with an effective start <br />date of January 23, 2024 for firefighter training and other such duties will be beginning on January <br />23, 2024. <br />a. Pay. Starting rate of $20.00/hour. <br />b. Benefits: Police and Fire PERA <br />c.
