May 16.1993
Mr. Ron Morris
City of Orono
P.O. Box 66
Orono. MN. 55356
Subject: Intersection of Willow Drive and U S. Hwy. 12
Dear Mr. Morris:
With much ongoing concern of the danger of this intersection 1 have discussed
options and problems with many people.
I feel strongly that congestion and accident risk could be dramatically reduced
by simply installing signs restricting left turns durring times of heavy congestion.
I suggest posting both East and West bound lanes "No Left Turn 7 to 9 a.m. and
5 to 7
We certianly don't need more stop lights on highway 12.
Neighbors, local business, many Police officers and your Public Works Director
have been supportive of pursuing this further. Chief Sullivan could only suggest
rhetorical excuses to squelch the idea. Chief Sullivan had no facts reguarding
times or natures of the many accidents occuring at this corner and did not
research the accident history. I was only informed how busy his officers were
and that trying something like this would only make things worse. Without facts
this appears to be a beaurocratic put off.
My request is for a report of the accidents, their nature, and their time as relating
to turn restrictions. In addition I request this suggestion be passed on to
MINNDOT as a suggestion and that I receive a copy of the request and their
report.
My family has experienced two significant accidents at this comer and take this
problem seriously.
Your immediate reply is appreciated.
Sincerely,
Dave Peterson
2625 Fox Street
Wayzata, MN. 55391
cc; John Gerhardson, Orono
The Editor of The Pioneer
Phone (h) 473-2783
(o) 541-0150
