ABOUT OUR DIRECTRESS
In Montsssorlf the "directress" or "director" is not a
teacher in the traditional sense. The adult is trained to
observe the child's needs, and direct him to an activity that
will help develop his potential. After presenting proper use
* set of materials, the child is allowed to take over. As
a trained observer and guide, the directress keeps daily
records of what has been presented to the child and aims to
maximize success and minimize error for the child. This is
accomplished with built-in feedback systems so the child can
correct his own errors as they occur. In this way, the child
becomes an independent learner.
We are fortunate to have Carole Busch as directress of our
school. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts Degree Magna
Cum Laude in Psychology in 1972, she received her Montessori
Teaching Certificate from Farleigh Dickenson University in
1970, and her Master of Arts Degree in Child Development in
1979.
She has been working with children ages 2 to 6 since 1969,
*^^*^*t as a preschool camp counselor, then as a special
education teacher, and finally, as a Montessori directress
for six years. Before coming to the Montessori School of
Wayzata Bay, she taught at Childrens House in Verona, N.J.
and at the Montessori Learning Center in Ridgewood, N.J.
Her Montessori training from Farleigh Dickenson University
<the oldest University Montessori training program in the
United States) emphasized the Montessori curriculum from the
P®*^*P®ctlve of current psychological knowledge and research
on in^Bllectudl devolopcnent o*f childron.
Some of Carole's previous volunteer activities have includedi
Kindergarten helper for Wayzata Public Schools, the Plymouth
Citizen's Tack Force, Vice-President of the Board of
Directors for Deephaven Montessori, Vice-President and Social
Director of Greentree West Homeowner's Association, President
of Greentree West Babysitting Coop, and work with Friends of
Animals and Pet Haven.
