Since no one has been able to <br />definitely locate the system, the alternative is to verify where it is not <br />located by trenching along or parallel to t-.e proposed lot line. This will <br />allow staff and the applicants to verify whether cr not any drainfield <br />trenches extend across or near the proposed lot line. <br />There is potential for causing some problems for the existing system <br />if one or more drainfield lines are opened up during freezing weather. The <br />possibility of freezing a portion of one or more drainfield lines of what <br />is probably a substandard system leads me to recommend that such trenching <br />be postponed until the weather warms up, perhaps late March or early April. <br />As we have discussed, while it may not be appropriate to grant <br />preliminary subdivision approval based on the proposed lot line, final <br />approval should not be granted until it is verified that the septic system <br />is within the property boundaries and at least 10' within the proposed new <br />lot line.
