r
Tbc Orono Hockey Boosters believes that it must develop and produce
the solution to the Indoor ice needs of its boy and girl skaters, and to the
other ice requirements of the greater Orono community.
That solution starts with an available site, near the Orono High School and
described more fully later in this book, and has these components:
Solution
• A private arena development program and private arena ownership.
• Funding through individual, corporate and foundation donations, without
reliance on debt.
• A new indoor arena, housing an 01ympic*siz<>d ice sheet, with an
appearance and quality that matches and justifies its location on the Orono
school campus.
• Assistance in planning and development from two sophisticated and
experienced firms—Hammel Green and Abrahnmso ;, Inc. architects, and
Kraus Anderson, Inc., contractors.
• Use of the arena by the Orono Hockey Boosters program and by the high
school boys and girls varsity and junior varsity programs.
• Other immediate use of the arena by the greater Orono community.
• Arena opening by the fall of 199S.
The balance of this book describes the important aspects of this proposed
solution in more detail.
Orono Ice Arena
