MN S5402
Dear David:
We have talked with you several times about the possibility of a joint arena project that would help
solve each of our ice time needs.
Most recently. Mark Engebretson met with you and Barcy Petit, with Gabriel jabbour prcKnt. about
the site reoendy ceded by Orono to War-* . South of Highway 12 and across from the Wayzaia
Boulevard intenection.
We continue to be very interested in a joint acena cBbrc, as long as we can count on getting
something done, and can get it done more quickly chat our alternatives.
But in that regard, we Itave two concerns about the site you are proposing.
First, you now indicate that a stoplight would be required Ibr the arena use. That stoplight issue
seems to us to be much bigger and more complicated chan our arena issues, and we are not interested
in pursuing a project diac requires lobbying for and resolution of a new Highway 12 stoplight.
Second, as Mark said at the meeting with you, we are still concerned about the prudence of
mounting a significant development and fundraising effott for a site that is a candidate tor
condemnation in a Highway 39d extension.
Both of these factors give us concern about the reliability of gening soiTiething done on the siie
within a predicable time frame.
As a result, while we remain ready to talk with you about the feasibility of a joint project, we cannot
commif’''fo\the Public \C^orks building site at this time, and will pursue our other alternatives.
PIca/e call^c. and let's talk about what wc can do.
BW^Hafvtmt»n
