The current balar« in the drug forfeiture fundis <br />$10,398.58. An additioiud $4,489.10 will be added to this fund in the first part of 1994, <br />bringing the total to 514,887.68. <br />A policy and procedure is needed to provide guidelines for how the drug forfeiture money may <br />be used and how its use is authorized. <br />Proposed Poliev and Procedure Reyarding the Use of Drug ForfcittOT pOTlfa <br />Policy: Drug forfeiture funds may be used for law enforcement purposes including; "buy <br />money" for drug investigation, expenses related to extra drug enforceriient such as police officer <br />salaries, other drug enforcement or drug abuse prevention efforts, minor capital items that are <br />beyond the funding able to be provided through the regular budget, and other law enforcement <br />related purposes. <br />Procedure: In the case of "buy money" for drug investigations, drug forfeiture funds may ^ <br />used at the discretion of the Police Chief In the case of all other uses, the ^ <br />expenditure of drug forfeimre ftinds must be approved by the City Administrator and authorized <br />by the City Council. <br />Council Action Requested - Motion to approve the proposed policy and procedure regardii^ the <br />expenditure of drug forfeiture money.
