Box 66
Crystal Bay, Minnesota 55323
RE: LAND USE APPLICATIONS, CITY OF ORONO, HENNEPIN COUNTY
Dear Mr. Gaffron;
I have comments on the following land use applications.
#1895. pat Wolfe. 2871 Casco Point Road f27-133_-l_ll^ The applicant
requests after-the-fact hardcover, average lakeshore setback and
lake setback variances for the reconstruction of a shed. DNR Metro
Waters recommends that the city deny the variance requests as they
are currently proposed. There are many alternate locations on the
lot where the shed would be able to meet the city's setback
requirements. We also question whether hardship exists.
G..-son Desicm on behalf of James_, 2525—Run woody
Avenue f27-133-ll. Spring Park Bay) ._ The applicant requests
approval of a conditional use permit and variance for grading and
construction of retaining walls within the 0-75' lakeshore setback.
We understand that there is an existing erosion problem and that a
replacement wall of some type is required. We do not object to the
city approving retaining wall work at this location as long as.
city engineer agrees that the design is structurally sound and will
prevent erosion problems, disturbance of the existing trees and
vegetation in the lakeshore area is minimized, and any shoreline
riprapping is done in accordance with the rules of the Minnehaha
Creek Watershed District and the DNR conditions for not requiring
a permit.
#1968 Xcit-h and Vivian Banaert. 3500 Bavside Road.i...PIP 05-117-23
IT nnis r?7-l33-7T , Stubbs Bavi. The applicants request several
variances for construction of a driveway and single family
residence. DNR Metro Waters recommends that the city flgny the
variance requests as they are currently proposed. In particular,
we are concS^ned about the proposed driveway off of CR 84 (Bayside
Road) which would require considerable grading and vegetation
removal on a bluff. Further, it is our understanding that even if
the proposed extensive alterations to the existing bluf were
allowed, the applicants would still have a marginal access based on
AN EQUAL opportunity EMPLOYER
