As part of the tank removal process some contamination of soils from ftiel
leakage was detected. In order to determine the extent of the contamination seven soil borings
and four monitoring wells were installed on the site. Groundwater samples were collected from
the monitoring wells in May and July of 1994. The findings from three of the monitoring wells
indicate no problems with contamination. However, the findings from one of the wells indicate
a higher level of contaminants than anticipated.
Braun has recommended that two additional soil boring and one additional monitoring well be
installed to fully define the extent of the contamination. Groundwater will be sampled and
analyzed on a quarterly basis for one year. The estimated cost for this work is $12,302. Greg
Browne, of Braun Intertec, will be present at the Council meeting to explain the findings of the
Lnitial round of groundwater sampling, and the need for the recommended additional monitoring.
COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED:
Motion to approve the additional two soil borings, monitoring well, and soil and groundwater
sampling and analysis by Braun Intertec at an estimated cost of $12,302.
JLlAl a; 1 m
