The CiQr received ei|^ (8) proposals and interviewed three firms. One of the three firms <br />was the current legal service provider Popham Haik. At its August 1 work session the Council <br />discussed the level of service provided by Popham Haik in conqxarison with die other firms. <br />The consensus of the Council was that the Popham Haik firm should be retained. <br />£fi» <br />The fees proposed by Popham Haik include a monthly retainer of $1400.00 covering <br />preparation for and attendance at City Council meetings and general consultation not requiring <br />extensive research, and an hourly rate of $105.00 for associates and $115.00 for shareholders. <br />TL'is rate would apply to all services not coveted by the monthly retainer. <br />These rates are significandy reduced from the "standard" rates of the Popham Haik legal staff. <br />The standard rates range from $125.00 per hour to $205.00 per hour. The proposal provides <br />that for legal services that can be charged to developers or other land use ^iplicants, the <br />standard rates would be charged. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED: <br />Motion to retain the firm of Popham Haik as the city’s legal fiim. <br />V i <br />t.
