Ha prasantad tha plans for tha tamporary structura and <br />statad that Community Education personnal, building and grounds <br />parsonnal and alamantary principals hava bean involvad in tha <br />^••iQn and placamant of tha structura. Ha statad that <br />administration is currently in tha process of saaking a conditional <br />use permit from tha City of Mapla Plain and it is anticipated that <br />tha building will be ready for use by December 1, 1994. Neal <br />Lawson and Or. Mich answered questions from tha Board. <br />UPON MOTION by Jim Franklin, seconded by Pamela Schroedar, the <br />Board of Education approved the recommended adoption for tha <br />language arts program covering grades 1-8. <br />Dr. Mich explained tha process of textbook selection by stating <br />that each year textbooks are upgraded and updated in specific <br />content areas with funding for this effort budgeted through tha <br />capital fund. Connie Fladaland, Schumann Elementary Principal, <br />provided background information on the process that was followed in <br />selecting these textbooks, informing the Board that all of tha <br />material has bean piloted. She stated that this is a very <br />integrated process inclusive of the process of NCA, PER, tha cycle <br />of reviewing curriculum and meeting specific goals each year, etc. <br />Dr. Mich and Ms. Pladeland responded to questions from tha Board. <br />Appreciation was expressed to Leona MacLaan, facilitator for this <br />selection process, as well as all others who participated in this <br />task as their work will impact students for several years. <br />Motion carried. <br />UPON MOTION by Martha Van da Van, seconded by Pamela Schroadar, tha <br />Board of Education adopted tha Improvement Goals for tha 1994-95 <br />school year as follows: <br />Explore tha need and develop recommendations for tha <br />development of an integrated (K-12) study skills program. <br />Study the current procedures for coordination of tha <br />curriculum and develop recommendations to enhance tha <br />communication, cooperation and curriculum coordination K- <br />12, including models which provide faculty time for thasa <br />rasponsibi1ities. <br />1. <br />2. <br />education fitnass <br />and consider tha <br />4 . <br />Enhance tha currant physical <br />instruction at tha high school <br />development of a fitness unit. <br />Implamant an integrated approach to language arts <br />(Houghton Mifflin: Tha Literature Exparianca) at tha <br />alamantary level, providing insarvica for staff and <br />evaluating tha program throughout tha year.
