Ill historic Excelsior
AREA CHAMSR OF COMMEhCX
May 9, 1994
RECc
mm 1 ^
CnY OF OBO^ C
OnHic shorn of Lake Minnetonka
Mayor & Council Members
City of Orono
For more than one hundred years Excelsior has been home to a
festive Fourth of July fireworks display. Today Excelsior is
the last remaining community on liSke Minnetonka to carry on
this old time tradition. Every year, thousands of people enjoy
this special display. In fact, the event is more popular than
ever, drawing friends and families from all the surrounding
communities, including Orono. We welcome our friends from
around the Lake and wish to continue this festive tradition for
many years to come, yet sadly, we are faced with the
possibility of permanently canceling the display due to lack of
financial support.
We are asking for the support of our neighbors to help keep
t lis wonderful family tradition alive. Until this year, the
ainual fireworks display has been funded soley by the Excelsior
Chamber of Commerce and its member businesses. Faced with
rising costs to put on the event, including police services,
lake use permits, trash and sanitation services; as well as
heavy competitition from other worthwile causes for sponsorship
dollars, our generous neighborhood businesses are virtually
tapped out. Rather than canceling this wonderful tradition
that is shared by so many families across Lake Minnetonka, we
have decided to go outside our usual list of contributors and
ask support of the communities that enjoy the annual
festivities.
In order to save the event we need the financial support of
those who would like to see this long-standing tradition
continue. So far, the cities of Excelsior, Greenwood,
Shorewood, and Tonka Bay have generously contributed funds to
keep the fireworks display alive. I hope that you will decide
to contribute as well. We need your help to make this and
future Fourth of July celebrations safe and festive for our
communities.
POST OFFICE BOX 32 • EXCELSIOR. MINNESOTA 55331 • PHONE 16121 474-6461
