LAKE MINNETONKA CONSERVATION DISTRICT
News Release
Mar 16, 1994
SUBJECT:Lake Minnetonka High Mater Levels Call for
Boater Cooperation and Courtesy
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Make action from boats is creating its share of damage
to Lake Minnetonka shoreline according to phone calls being
received by the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District (LMCD).
The high water levels have returned this spring, peaking
at just over 929.9’ above sea level, according to eaecvtive
director Gene Strommen. The lake level is on its way down,
once again at 929.86’ a© of May 16. Since boat traffic has
been light with the cool spring air and water temperatures,
the emergency high water conditions have not been declared,
Strommen added..
Mith the lake level being about .4' above the 929.4
ordinary high water level, shore line damage is being
experienced in various areas around the lake.
Boaters can avoid creating shore line wake damage by
boating well away from shore or operating at minimum wake
speeds even beyond the 150' minimum wake distance from shore.
Other recommendations to prevent shoreline wake disturbance
are:
*
*
Mhen passing points -- stay well clear of point buoys
When towing persons, make turns 300’ or farther away
from the shore in a wide turn pattern.
