REQUEST FOR COLT^CIL ACTION «i>r ■*->'DATE: May ^
NO: yUITEM NO
Department Approval:Administrator Reviewed;Agenda Section:
Name Ron Moorse 7 City Administrator ’s
Title City Administrator S/' .Report
Item Description:
Park Survey
At the May 9 Council meeting several concerns were expressed regarding the draft of the park
survey. The concerns related to both the formal and the focus of the survey. One concern was
that the formal began with specific activities (micro) and then went to more general questions
(macro). It was suggested that the format should begin at the macro level and move to the micro
level. Concerns were also expressed regarding whether the survey as drafted would provide the
information the City needs.
From staffs perspective the purpose of the survey is to provide information to address three
main questions:
1. Are the City ’s residents generally satisfied with the parks and recreation facilities
currently available to them?
2. Are there needs not being met that residents want the City to meet?
3. do the residents want the City to meet their unmet needs if they have to pay their
share of the costs?
The survey is set up to obtain this information in several ways.
1. The questions related to specific activities will enable the City to create a
recreation profile, or profiles, of the City ’s residents. This will enable the City
to determine what the general orientation of its residents is in relation to parks
and recreation.
2. A series of questions has been designed to obtain general information about
whether the current parks and facilities meet citizen needs.
