Vang Field Inspector <br />DATE:April 18, 1994 <br />SUBJECT: 2180 Nonh Shore Drive/Aiclier LcSikut Insiinuc <br />Tte subject building was built as a school in the late 1800s. Its last recognized legal use was <br />a residential day care facility . <br />The proposed use is an an school that has art students and conducts art shows where the public <br />is invited. The new use is classified as a B-2 occupancy which is different than the previous <br />school use (an E occupancy) and the day care use (an R occupancy). <br />A change of occupancy type requires the building to be brought up to current code for ^ new <br />use. It is recommended that the owner retain a licensed architect to address items uicluding, but <br />not limited to. Group B «Kcupancy requirements, exifting requirements, type of construction <br />requirements and handicap access and sanitation requirements. <br />The art school is now in operation without a certificate of occupancy. The Building Department <br />frels we can allow the school to remain open for a reasonable amount of time to allow the owner <br />time to bring the building into compliance provided the owners resolve the immediate hazard of <br />the use of flammable curtains for partitions throughout the building. <br />ch <br />L._.I
