An <br />eight-acre sediment basin. 11.5 feet deep, is proposed m Orono ^ <br />wtere the creek crosses (between Long Lake Boulevard and Tanglewood Road). <br />• In this area the creek winds through wooded slopes. 17 ^ vard <br />. The plan would be to remove 174.000 cubic yards ot earth, i.c. 17.400 lea-yard <br />dump truck loads in an area the size of eight football fields. <br />. While this wUl presumably have a significant positive impact on the l^e. it iMy Iwvc <br />negative aesthetic impacts on existing and potential residential devTlopmcnt sites. <br />Aeration System <br />Two aeration systems, one in the middle of the west basin and f <br />basin would be apparently operated on a pemuMtu year-round basis. This may have some <br />impact on both summer and winter use of the lake. <br />Project Costs <br />The entire project is anticipated to cost $3.5 million. Proposed funding is by M <br />MPCA Oean^at« Pattnership Phase II Grant. 45% .MCWD fttnds. ^ the remaimng 5% <br />beinc ■in-kind" contributions by the cities and agencies. Orono s m-kind contribution over <br />6-yeL life of the project would essentully be donation of suff time, copying eapenses. etc. <br />which MCWD estimates as having a value of $10,000. <br />Recommeodation <br />I recommend that this be discussed by the Cou^U. <br />that each city provide a committee member. As noted m Martha Ha^icl s letter of December <br />17. MCWD^aSticipates the first committee meeting will be held early m February.
