Even though it is
clearly marked with "Private Road" signs it is frequently used as
a short cut for local and non local traffic.
In the winter, Deborah Drive becomes a "freeway" for
snowmobilers to and from the Luce Line Trail.
The Hound school buses frequently use Deborah Drive, as do
others, to avoid the dangerous intersection at County Road 6 and
Watertown Road.
One resident has had his fence driven through three times
with the most recent incident resulting in a DWI arrest and three
people hospitalized. This occurred at the exact location the
resident's children wait for the bus.
In conjunction with creating a cul-de-sac which would
include a bus turn-around, our desire is to blacktop Deborah
Drive to Orono's specifications, at our expense.
It is obvious to us, with the already reckless ed^andon this
road experiences, the blacktopping would make the situation a
potentially lethal one without the creation of a cul-de-sac.
Once blacktopped, the safety of our children running or biking
would be in further jeopardy, due to poor visibility at the
curvature and a probable increase in already irresponsible
speeding.
This is not a petition to make Deborah Drive a public road
maintained by the City of Orono, only to improve it in a manner
consistent with the quality of Orono's standards insuring the
safety of the development's residents. However, if our variance
is denied, we would ask that Orono consider making the road
public, since much of its use appears to be that now, and be
responsible for its maintenance and safety.
Mmm
:• r
■: ■.■. f V'’:nm:L U'
'/r.m Hi
%
%W:^mMimmmm
L./-.
•«•' ''
mm
mmm.
• ,V‘ r '
