MINUTES OF THE ORONO PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING <br />HELD AUGUST 16, 1993 <br />{m /!fl850 JAMES SPINNER, <br />940 NORTH ARM DRIVE - <br />VARIANCES - PUBLIC HEARING 9:31 TO 9:55 P.M. <br />James Spinner was present. <br />Mabusth explained that applicant propo.ses a 12’x22* garage stall addition to the existing attached <br />garage. It will be placed over existing haidcover. The impact will be minimal on lakcshore <br />views of adjacent residences. Applicants* contractor did not provide complete hardcover tacts. <br />Nolan pointed out a concrete patio about 6 or 8’ which runs along the length of the addition <br />which was not shown on the hardcover fact sheet. <br />Spinner answered there would be a water problem in the basement if removed. <br />Mabusth stated that would be about 222 s.f. added to the 75-250*. <br />Chair Schroeder asked if he thought about the pool area or any other areas that can be removed. <br />Spinner said the pool area has crushed rock and a small slab is tilted out ajjainst the crushed rock <br />which is needed for drainage. <br />Mabusth explained if the crushed rock is placed on existing grade, it isn’t counted as hardcover. <br />Nolan asked if the sidewalk could be narrowed to be the width, of a traditional sidewalk and be <br />ke|)t almost under your overhang. Would you consider removing sidewalk up to the garage. <br />Spinner said he could do that but the problem is the pad at grade. There is some debris on the <br />stairs right now and part of it is crushed rock and when you get back up it becomes level. <br />Nolan inquired if it could be removed withou* sub.stantial erosion. <br />Spinner said he isn’t sure what is under there. <br />Chair Schroeder asked what is supporting tliai pad now. <br />Spinner answered it is timbers which were present when he bought the house 15 years ago and <br />the asphalt drivewuiy has been there since the house was built approximately 25 years.
