Mabusth
Building & Zoning Administrator
City of Orono
F.O. Box 66
Ciystal Bay. MN 55323
Re: Johnson Property
FUc No. 139.1793
Dear Jeanne:
We have inspected and reviewed the exisung and proposed contour plan submitted for the
proposed pond on the Johnson property located at 627 North Ferndale Road. The plan shows
the existing wetland outlet is 4’ below the basement of the Feig home. Excavating a pond is
not necessary to install drain tile from the house footing to the low area. The proposed pond
has mostly aesthetic value with some benefit provided by means of groundwater recharge and
storm water sediment trapping.
The wetland has been identified as a Type 6 and 7 -Hr-b swamp. This type of wetland is
generally reco^iized as a lower quality wetland and th» creation of some open water may be
an enhancement. Although the wetland is protected by the Wetland Conservation Act.
excavation may be permitted if the excavated spoil materials are removed from the wetland
area. We recommend that all materials be hauled off the property as no suitable fill area is
available.
The proposed pond location as shown limits the possibiL'ties for an alternate septic site. We
recommend any excavation be restricted to the drainage easement area. The area should be
restored by spreading the existing topsoil materials, followed by seeding with native plant
species covered by mulch material
Please contact me at this office if you have any questions.
Yours very truly,
BONESTROO.
