The purpose of the action item is to inform the council of a staff developed program and to <br />seek adoption of the sponsorship program. <br /> <br />2. Background / Summary. The Park Commission has requested for several years that the city develop <br />a sponsorship program to help fund city events such as the Annual Tree Lighting, Lurton Dog Days, etc. <br />Commissioners currently have the ability to solicit donations but do not have a formalized process for <br />making these requests. <br /> <br />3. Main Paragraph. The sponsorship program is meant to be a city-wide initiative and will help fund <br />a multitude of future events hosted by the city. The sponsorship program will have several different tiers <br />of contribution levels depending on the amount that is donated. The different tiers are shown in Exhibit <br />A. There will be certain incentives/benefits to the sponsorship levels that mostly consist of advertising <br />and public recognition. The sponsorship program will provide a clearer and simpler process for <br />individuals and businesses wanting to contribute to City of Orono events. Funds that are contributed to <br />the sponsorship program will be placed in a separate events enterprise fund and will be earmarked for <br />future events. If a donor specifies that the funds be used for a certain event, the city will honor the <br />request. All unspecified funds will be held in the sponsorship fund account and used for future events. <br /> <br />4. Staff Recommendation. Staff recommends approval of the Events Sponsorship Program. Having <br />the sponsorship program will allow for a more efficient way for commissioners to solicit donations. I <br />believe that the sponsorship program will help grow future events in the City of Orono. <br /> <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />Motion to approve the events sponsorship program. <br /> <br />Exhibits <br />A.
