I assume these rumors may have
originated in relation to the study currently under way regarding police services in the Lake
Minnetonka area. Because I am co-chair of the study comminee, the letters to the police chiefs
have gone out under my signature. The rumors were probably further fueled by the letter to the
editor in the September 21, 1995 Lakeshore Weekly News that indicated the Tonka Bay Mayor
had recently called for Tonka Bay to look into switching to the Orono Police Department for
police service.
This letter is to assure you that the City of Orono is not pursuing the provision of police
services to the City of Tonka Bay. There have been no discussions between myself and the
Orono Cit>' Council, or between the Tonka Bay Cit\’ Council and the Orono City Council,
regarding Orono providing police serv ices to Tonka Bay. 1 regret any concerns or problems this
rumor may have caused to you or your depanment. If you have any questions, please call me.
Sincerely,
Ronald J. Moorse
Citv Administrator
Telephone (612) 473-7357 ♦ FAX 473-0510
