TO: <br />FROM: <br />DATE: <br />Mayor and City Council <br />Ron Moorsc, City Administrator <br />August 24, 1995 <br />SUBJECT: New Inquiry Regarding Public Versus Private Roads <br />Staff recently met with Bob Beach, a resident of Salem Court-a cul-de-sac off of North Brown <br />Road-regarding the issue of public versus private maintenance of -oadways in the City. Salem <br />Court is a private roadway, which was recently reconstructed. The residents are interested in <br />the City taking over responsibility for the roadway so that they will not have to incur further <br />costs for maintenance of the roadway. <br />Staff related to Mr. Beach the city’s policy regarding the private responsibility for roadways in <br />the rural area of the city. Staff also indicated the Council recently reviewed this policy and <br />determined that no changes should be made. Mr. Bea^h plans to pursue this issue. He indicated <br />he mav contact property owners on other private roads lo gain support for the city taking over <br />responsibility for the maintenance of the pri’ aic roads.
