i m i L • 1*5 I ft I «i .. « *■ **• % <br />DRAFT <br />COOPER.VTIVE agreement <br />for Uic <br />Lung L^c Iinprovcjnent Project <br />This Cocreriuve Agreement is mada on this-----day of 1995. by and between <br />the Minnehaha Creek Watershed Distnet (hereinafter referred to as "MCWD"). a watershed <br />district created pursuant to Minnesota Statutes Chapter 103D, and the City of Orono <br />(hereinafter referred to as -Giy"). a body corporate and poUUc and a statutory city In the <br />State of Minnesota. <br />1. <;tntement of Purpose <br />WHEREAS, Lon^^ Lake is situated approximately two miles north of Lake Minnetonka <br />in western Hennepin County and its watershed, encompassing an area of 6.860 acres, includes <br />the Gty of Lon«: Lake and portions of Orono and Medina; <br />where .VS. Long Lake has a public boat landing and public swimming beaches; the <br />lake has been used historically for recreation and has a high potential for future recreational <br />use. but water quality degradation currently impain swimming and fishing; <br />WHEREAS, the Long Lake subwatershed drams into Lake Minnetonka and, <br />ultimately, the Minnehaha Creek corridor. ConsequenUy. any improvements to waicr quality <br />in Long Lake w-ll have .a po.sitive, disiiict wide efreci; <br />WHEREAS, in 1989. the MC3VD received a Clean Water Partnership Grant to <br />invesUs ale lake water quality and charac’,eri2e and quantify the sources contributing to the <br />decline in water quality; thereafter, the MCWD proceeded to develop an implementation plan
