Mr. Dewey Car n of the .Apple Valley Insurance <br />Agency, retired during the summer this year after m^ v years ot service to the Ciw. <br />Dewey was the primary municipal specialist in his tirm and the discussions I had with the <br />remaining agents indicated to me that there was little desire to continue as Orono ’s <br />insurance agent, in part due to the physical distance between their ottice and ours and <br />thev do not actively seek municipal business but are con ' traling ; ere ettorts in other •> ^ ' <br />areas. <br />As a result we began discussions with Mr. Carl Bennetsen ot R.L. Youngdahl and <br />Associates, who had indicated lost year that his firm would be very interested to serv e <br />Orono as insurance agent of record. Mr Bennetsen has represented municipalities since <br />1977 and the agency currently hi^s 18 municipal or school district clients, many of which <br />are in the surrounding area. I he firm .s located in the City ot Minnetonka so is <br />conveniently close. Mr. Bennetsen haj prepared a detailed proposal that meets all the <br />City's needs in this area and has indicated a fee for service fixed at $7,200 for each of the <br />next three years. The fee proposed is also $680 less than the amount we are currently <br />paying. <br />As we will ha\e a new insurance agent for 1996 it is important that an early <br />appointment be made so sufficient time and effort can be given to reviewing our various <br />policies and insurance needs. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED: <br />Council appointment of Mr. Carl Bennetsen of R.L. Youngd:ihl and Associates, Inc. as <br />insurance agent of rec >rd for 1996 at a fixed fee of $7,200. with a two year renewal at the <br />same fee, and from year to year thereafter unless canceled in writing by either party.
