Request for Council Action continued
page 3
April 21, 1995
Saga Hill Park Land Grant Public Hearing
grant agreement. This not only would result in the city forfeiting the gram funds but could also
place the city into a negative light in terms of future grant applications.
Staff Recommendation
Although it is not clear at this time how the Saga Hill property fits into the city’s open space
preservation objectives, it is clear that this property has numerous natural features that would
make it a high quality open space area. The efforts of the neighbors and the Minnesota Land
Trust also are providing a potentially innovative and attra »ive way for the city to acquire the
property. If the Saga Hill group and the Minnesota Land Tu •.«; can provide a reasonable level
of assurance of their ability to raise the matching funds, it is s. s recommendation that the city
move ahead with the grant application.
COUNCn. ACTION REQUESTED:
Motion to approve/deny authorization to proceed with tlie grant application for the purchase of
11 acres of land in the Saga Hill area for use as open space.
