MAYOR
L-H Haug
COUNCIL
William LaBeiie
Cougias Keiler
Guy Sasantar
Steven wcmscn
acministratcr
PatriCK Wusscw
April 19. 1995
4QQ1 Mamtou Road. Tonka Bay, Minnesota 55331 (612) 474-799*1
FAX 474-6538
APR 2
Honorable Mayor Edward Callahan, Jr.,
and Council Members
City of Orono
P.O. Box 66
Crystal Bay, MN 55323
Dear Mayor Callahan:
This letter is in regard to the Public Hearing on the closing of Old Beach Road,
on April 24, 1995. As you may be well aware there is a petition circulating and
many of the Tonka Bay citizens have contacted the Tonka Bay City Council
members. With this letter I am relaying a message from our citizenry that they
are greatly displeased with the closing of Old Beach Road.
I personally have lived in the community since 1955 and have used Old Beach
Road for the last 40 years. I believe the road to be a . .al short cut that allows
me to avoid the "15 and 19" intersection. I understand that the few people that
live on Old Beach Road want the road used less.
We had a similar situation in Tonka Bay, where the citizens living on Birch Bluff
Road wanted the road closed to the public, or have speed bumps installed. As
a Council member serving the community it was our responsibility to keep the
road open. Because it was to the benefit of our community, not those specific
individuals living on that road.
I intended to be present at the hearing on the 24th, however I have a previous
engagement, and I am unable to attend. With this letter it is hoped that you will
have time to review my comments and reflect upon my suggestions.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at 474-6729.
