In the first three months of operation, <br />68 area residents received free job counseling and <br />referrals through the program. Fourteen people were <br />placed in jobs, and 23 people were placed in training <br />programs to prepare them for work. In addition, 25 <br />area employers listed 71 job openings with the WeCAN <br />program. Those jobs range in pay from $5 to $16 per <br />hour. <br />Area businesses can list their job openings with the <br />program free of charge by calling 472—0742 to speak <br />with Rick Polanski, WeCAN’s Job & Business Developer. <br />Any person looking for employment can use the WeCAN <br />program at no cost. Services include private, <br />confidential sessions with the WeCAN Career Specialist <br />Linda Roberds. She helps job seekers with job or <br />training referrals, with resume writing, interviewing <br />skills, and much more. Job counseling services are <br />provided at WeCAN’s Mound office and at satellite <br />offices in Rockford, Maple Plain and St. Bonifacius. <br />Call 472-0742 for an appointment at any of these <br />convenient sites. <br />The WeCAN Jobs Program also has JobLink computer <br />services available free to job seekers and employers. <br />The JobLink service lists 150 new job openings each <br />day, keeps listings current, and is easy to use. <br />The WeCAN Jobs Program is affiliated with Neighborhood <br />Emplojinent Network (NET), which links together 14 <br />community jobs programs in Hennepin County. <br />The WeCAN Jobs Program is funded by grants from the <br />McKnight Foundation, Norwest Banks, 1st Bank of the <br />Lakes in Navarre and other contributions.
