(#3 - Open Spsce Preservation ■ Continued) <br />It was detenmiied that each Commissioner member will prioritize wlut b impottam to <br />them for (uture park deveioproem and come to the work session equipped with they <br />see as a picture for tomorrow fun White offered to provide materials which would help <br />facilitate the planning for this session. <br />(#4) CRYSTAL BAY PLAYGROUND <br />Gerhardson passed out a rough plan for the Crystal Bay Playground for the commissioners <br />input. <br />The Commissioners discussed the pros and cons of the plan. McMillan and Wilson vrifl <br />set up a meeting of the sub-committee to go over the plan and make sugg^t.ons for <br />changes and rearrangement. Gerhardson noted the importance of the City s obligation m <br />following the ADA guidelines for accessibility for those with disabilities. <br />Some comments of the plans are as follows: Concern over the small size of the parking <br />lot; need for an open rectangular grass area for casual games; hi^ cost of tennis rourts, <br />movinkt the ice rink to where the voUeyball court is located; ambiance o^c gazebo; <br />positive response to the landscape beims and the sidewalk to the post office; whether both <br />fencing and berms are necessary; and the need to look at rough cost estimates for <br />downsizing as the plan is rather busy. <br />(#5) OTHER BUSINESS <br />Highwood Nature Trail was discussed. Gerhardson passed out a plan for this park ^ <br />had been made in 1970 and noted how it closely foUows what is being suggested today. <br />The location for the parking lot has been determined to be placed along the county road. <br />Gerhardson has suegested a loop driveway which will allow for a smaller lot but still <br />accomodate a bus.''The estimated cost is $5,000. Bituminous is suggested due to the <br />lower maintenance fector but can be sealcoated with colored rock. <br />Tlie trailhead sign and picnic table will cost approximately $1,000. <br />Gerhardson said the City needs to consider development of a pond for storm water runoff. <br />This would be paid for with funding other than Paric Dedication Funds. <br />McMillan moved. Use seconded, to submit a budget proposal to the Council for ^ <br />parking lot for Highwood Trail, which could accomodate a bus, and for signage and picnic <br />table for spring completion. Gerhardson to provide final details prior to Council meeting. <br />Ayes 4, Nays 0. The commission will be looking for an adopt-a-park group to maintain <br />the trails in this area.
