H <br />MEMORANDUM <br />DATE:12/4/97 <br />TO:Chair Lindquist and Planning Commission Members <br />Ron Moorse, City Administrator <br />FROM: Brad Dressier, Planning Assistant <br />RE:Orono Business Inventory <br />ATTACHMENTS: A: Orono Business Directory <br />B: Businesses With More Than Four Employees in Residential Zones <br />C: Zoning Code Provisions Regarding Home Occupations <br />D: List of Licensed Home Occupations <br />Di^g October and November, i997 a study was conducted to inventory business located in Orono. <br />Prior to ^s time, there was no comprehensive record containing this information. Information <br />gathered includes determuiing what types of businesses Orono has, where they are located and what <br />are the largest businesses in terms of employees and sales. This study has answered these questions. <br />The purpose of this inventory is to keep track of home occupations, assist in completing a Minnesota <br />Department of Trade and Economic Development community profile sheet and to serve as a <br />reference for staff regarding Orono businesses in general. <br />To determine the nature of each business. Standard Industrial Codes (SIC) were used. These are <br />numbers assigned to each business registered with the Department of Trade and Economic <br />Development to denote their primary function(s). As shown in the directory, each SIC is shown, as <br />well as what the numbers represent. <br />Attachment A is the business directory. The information is sorted by zoning district, as well as <br />number of employees. Table 1 summarizes the number of businesses in each zoning district. <br />Table 1 <br />Number of Businesses in Orono.
