ORONO PARK COMAUSSION MEETING <br />MINUTES FOR JULY 7,1997 DRAFT <br />ATTENDANCE <br />The Park ConuDlssion met on the above mentioned date Tvith the fbOowing members <br />present: Chair Susan Wilson. Commissioners Shcrokee Use, Andrew McDermott, James <br />White (who arrived at 7:40), and David Beat Van Erickson and Peter WeOes were <br />^sent. Representing Staff were Public Service Director Greg Gappa, City Planner <br />Elizabeth Van Zommeren. and Recorder Sheny Frost. Chair Wilson called the meetisg to <br />order at 7:20 pjn. <br />(#1) APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF JUNE 2,1997 MEETING <br />Wilson noted that the Commission decided not to meet earlier on ste for this meeting as <br />indicate in the June minutes to discuss the sketch plan being considered for property on <br />Saga Hill due to changes being considered for the sketch piaa <br />Beal moved, McDermott seconded, to approve the Minutes of the Park Commission <br />Meeting of June 2, 1997. Vote. Ayes 4, Nays 0. <br />(Item #2 follows Item #6.) <br />(#^ TREE PRESERVATION POUCY <br />Beal reported that a meeting of the sub-committee was held resulting in a broad based <br />policy. Points 1 throu^ 5 will be discussed with Council and the policy will be reviewed <br />by the Planning Commission for a recommendation. The policy is directed at developers <br />with emphasis on commercial properties. Beal said the committee recognized the ri^ts of <br />private property owners and has recommended a brochure be provided relating the <br />philosophy of Orono regarding preservation of its rural theme. Gaffiron had mentioned at <br />that meeting concern for "taking" of land. The policy will be reviewed by Coundl at thdr <br />July 14 meeting. <br />Wilson indicated that a couple members of the Planning and Park Commissions could <br />review with Staff and possibly the consultant to provide the details of the policy.
