Zoning Code Amendment <br />October 14. 1996 <br />Page 2 <br />uses contemplated in the B-6 district. <br />Potential localized problems of trash, odors, and the potential to become a <br />"hang-out" due to proximity to the Orono Schools, are all somewhat negative <br />aspects of a drive-thru restaurant use. <br />Elimination of drive-thru restaurants does not eliminate the possibility of sit- <br />down restaurants, coffee shops, etc. which would ser\e both the general public <br />and the other uses contemplated for the B-6 district. <br />It should be noted that Class II restaurants were never allowed in the B-6 district. Class II <br />restauiants are defined in the Zoning Code as "Fast food convenience, drive-in and liquor <br />service restaurants. A restaurant where a majorit)' of customers order and are served their food <br />at a counter in packages prepared to leave the premises, or to be taken to a table, counter, <br />automobile, or off the premises to be consumed; or a drive-in where most customers consume <br />their food in an automobile regardless of how it is served; or restaurants which serve <br />intoxicating hquor or have live entertainment." <br />Staff Recommendation <br />Based on the work session discussions, staff has drafted an ordinance retlecti.»g the above noted <br />changes.
