MINUTES OF THE JOINT COUNCIL/PARK COMMISSION WORK SESSION <br />HELD ON TUESDAY, JULY 30, 1996 <br />page 2 of 2 <br />Mayor Callahan suggested the two specific actions to be undertaken by the Park Commission <br />in relation to the parks planning effort are as follows: <br />1.Identify land proposed to be acquired for parks/open space and determine how the <br />land should be used. <br />2. Determine whether more facilities are needed in Orono for team sport activities. <br />There was discussion regarding how the Highway 12 corridor selection process relates to the <br />city ’s parks planning process. It was suggested the city should develop a shopping list of <br />amenities to be included with any Highway 12 corridor i.e. bike trails, screening, open space, <br />etc. It was also suggested the city should position itself to take advantage of opportunities to <br />purchase from Mn/DOT excess right-of-way acquired by Mn/DOT for Highway 12.
