The purpose <br />of the recodification is to update and reorganize the city’s ordinances and to provide an index <br />and retrieval system to make the code easier to use. Although there are a number of providers <br />of rccodification services, the number who provide the type and level of service to accomplish <br />the purpose stated above is small. The city has obtained quotes from two providers. The base <br />service price quotes for the two are as follows; <br />Municipal Code Corporation $13,500.00 <br />Sterling Codifiers $12,000.00 <br />Staff Recommendation <br />Staff recommends Municipal Code Corporation for three reasons; <br />1.Municipal Code Corporation received vety high marks from area cities who have <br />recently used their service. <br />2. <br />3 <br />They appear to be the most customer-conscious. <br />Municipal Code Corporation provides the code on computer with several options of <br />information retrieval software available (at additional cost). <br />Information Retrieval Software <br />The cost of obtaining the code set up to be compatible with word processing and data base <br />software is $1,400. The cost of information retrieval software that will work both with the code <br />and for other city documents is $3,400. Staff will review these in more detail and will include <br />a recommendation as part of the 1997 proposed budget. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />Motion to approve the contract with Municipal Code Corporation for recodification of the city’s <br />ordinances at a cost of $13,500 and to authorize the Mayor to sign the contract. <br />J
