MINUTES OF THE REGULAR ORONO CITY COUNCIL <br />MEETING HELD ON JUNE 10, 1996 <br />(#13 - Public Works Maintenance Position Appointment - Continued) <br />Callahan moved, Kelley seconded, to approve the appointment of Donald DeBaere to the <br />position of Public W'orks Maintenance Worker effective Monday, June 24, 1996 at a pay <br />rate of $13.23 per hour. V'ote: Ayes 4, Nays 0. <br />(#14) EMPLOYMENT OF PARK INTERN <br />Moorse distributed a copy of an application for employinent of a park intern, which he <br />recently interviewed Moorse said the applicant is a student at Mankato State University <br />in the first year of a graduate program in urban and regional studies Moorse said the <br />applicant's background was close to what he was looking for <br />Huit asked if the position was advertised. Moorse said it was, and he had received 4 <br />applications Three were from students in the under-graduate level, who did not possess <br />the necessary skills The other applicant has accepted another position Hurr was <br />informed that the pay for the park intern would be $7 50 per hour <br />Hurr moved, Goetten seconded, to approve the hiring of Michael Schultz as a park <br />intern, effective June 12, 1996, at the rate of $7.50 per hour. Vote; Ayes 4, Nays 0. <br />(#15) EQUIPMENT PURCttASE PARKS <br />Moorse reported that the swimming buoys were found to be in need of replacement and <br />asked for authorization to spend the additional money for the purchase of said buoys. <br />Kelley moved, Hurr seconded, to approve the purchase of eight swim area buoys from <br />Roylon Inc. for a total cost of $976 and to purchase the buoys through the Improvement <br />and Equipment Outlay Fund and to amend the budget by that amount. Vote: Ayes 4, <br />Nays 0. <br />(#16) CSO APPOINTMENT <br />Moorse reported that the current Community Service Officer has been offered a full-time <br />officer position with another city. Moorse indicated he would like to fill this opening as <br />soon as possible and recommended Anthony Wittke, who was the number two candidate <br />in the previous selection process. Mr Wittke has been a reserve officer with our <br />department since 1994, has gone through Reserve Officer Training, 1st Responder <br />training, and is working toward his law enforcement degree. <br />Kelley asked how many initial interviewees applied for the position. Moorse informed <br />him there were 10. <br />Hurr asked where the candidate was in the process of completing his law enforcement <br />training Moorse said he believed he was about half-way through the program.
