Jolynn Bems
58 Creekside Drive
Long Lake, Minnesota 55356
May 23.1996
Mr. Chuck Siggerud
Metropolitan Division
Waters Edge
1500 W. County Rd. B2
Roseville. MN 55113
Dear Mr. Siggerud.
As a long time resident of Long Lake I would like to voice my concern with the Alternative 6 as
related to the Highway 12 study.
I am opposed to the Alternative 6 because I believe there are existing roadbeds that can be
improved to suflBciently solve the traffic issues in the area. As I understand it. Alternative 6
would include new roadbeds without an Environmental Impact Statement. The western suburbs
of Orono, Long Lake, Medina, Wayzata and surrounds are attractive, desirable and successful
communities because the residents and leaders have taken great care in preserving the peaceful,
rural environment, which in turn keeps propert>' values high and the tax dollars flowing to city,
county and state coffers.
I understand the Department of Transportation ’s mission to move traffic safely through our
communities, however as residents we must be able to live with the results of your efforts.
Another east-west road in Long Lake would be the third east-west road in a town of less than
one square mile! Furthermore, any new road construction without the benefit of an El S is
irresponsible, even more so in an area that has so carefully preserved its natural environment.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Jolynn Bems
c: (/Mayor Tod Olson, Long Lake
Mayor Edward J. Callahan, Orono
