ORONO cm' COUNCIL <br />MEETING OF APRIL S, 1996 <br />PLANNING COMMISSION APPLICANT INTERV lEMS <br />Interviews were conducted with the applicant^ who applied for the open position on the <br />Planning Commission The interviews are as follows: <br />Brian Peterson - absent <br />WUliam Stoddard - In response to being asked why he applied for the position, Stoddard <br />said he was interested in construction, construction management, and in zoning and <br />building regulations He noted his experience in building and plan revi^ew construction <br />manauement, and in dealinc with municipalities and other state and federal agencies in his <br />current position of president of Summit Envirosolutions Stoddard said he applied to <br />build upon civic pnde and responsibilitv I le has been an Orono resident tor a years He <br />is originally from Wisconsin and has lived in the Twin Cities tor 15 years, 6+ years in <br />Coon Rapids and 4+ in Minneapolis. <br />Stoddard said he had no other experience as a member of any civic organiz^ion He as <br />not read the Comprehensive Plan but is familiar with building regulations His only view <br />on Hwv 12 is thru what he has read in the newspaper Stoddard would not like to see the <br />road go through the commumty as only a vehicle to the west but is in favor of safe <br />road wavs <br />When asked about the City's philosophy, Stoddard, who has been to about 6 Council <br />meetings, said he liked how the City handled the closure of Old Beach Road. Stoddard <br />said he believes in development and in taking an individual look at each case As to <br />hardcover, Stoddard would like to look more into whether alternatives in construction <br />actually have an atfect on the lake. <br />Stoddard said he was aware that the Planning Commission was an advisory board to the <br />Council. He said he has the time to commit to the Commission as he is in charge ot his <br />own otTice and is free on Mondays <br />Hurt asked Stoddard where his business was located Summit is located near the 169/a <br />interchange. Stoddard told Hurr that he may have interest in the Park Commission if not <br />chosen for this position Callahan added that an opening has occurred in the Park <br />Commission He noted that Stoddard's background does lend itselt to the Planning <br />Commission
