Box 640 <br />Wayzata, Minnesota 55391 GME Project No. 5952 <br />RE: Design recommendations for the treated timber retaining wall <br />at the McCune residence in Orono, Minnesota <br />Dear Mr. Kline: <br />This report presents our design recommendations for the proposed timber <br />retaining wall at the McCune property in Orono. This work was <br />pgj^formed in accordance with your written acceptance of our contract <br />dated February 27, 1996. <br />Project Description <br />The property owner, Mr. Tom McCune, has retained you to construct_a <br />timber retaining wall on the residential lot at 1473 Bay Ridge Road in <br />Orono. Mr. McCune has requested that the retaining wall should be <br />similar in appearance to the wall on the lot immediately to the <br />northeast, which was constructed in 1987. We understand that the wall <br />was constructed in response to erosion and localized instability of the <br />previous embankment. Details of the adjoining retaining wall <br />construction and past slope stability problems have not been made <br />available to us. <br />The proposed retaining wall will be 90 feet long. The wall will be <br />tiered, and retain approximately 8 feet of embankment at the north end <br />of the wall, and 6 feet of embankment at the south end. Horizontal <br />separation between the tiered walls will be four feet. The grade <br />behind the upper wall will be a level lawn, therefore, an additional <br />surcharge loading will not be included in our design. <br />Scope of Services <br />Our scope of services for this project, as outlined in our contract, is <br />limited to providing design and construction recommendations for the <br />proposed timber retaining wall. .\s you requested, we will design the <br />lower wall to be tied back wicn Huesker Fortrac 35/20-20 geogrid.
