The City of Orono is an Equal Opportunity Employer <br />• Demonstrates an ability to obtain technical knowledge and information about the <br />workings of the department and trends and developments in the fire industry, sharing <br />that information with others to inspire and motivate them to work as a cohesive group. <br />• Demonstrates continued learning through continuing education and maintenance of <br />licensures and certifications. <br />• Demonstrates an ability to complete a given task within timelines, show up for work on <br />time, and show positive, consistent actions or behavior. <br />• Demonstrates an ability to promptly respond to requests for information or service from <br />customers. <br />• Demonstrates an ability to present fire safety information, give tours and demonstrations <br />to station visitors and small groups, and participate in public fire education programs <br />and activities, as assigned. <br />• Demonstrates an ability to assist in identifying and responding to the needs of customers <br />and a commitment to continuous improvement of service. <br /> <br />Minimum Requirements <br />• be at least 18 years old <br />• have a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) Diploma. <br />• have a valid Minnesota Class D Driver’s License or equivalent out-of-state driver’s <br />license <br />• live or work within 15 minutes of either fire station for a Paid-On-Call Firefighter <br />• complete an oral interview <br />• pass a physical and psychological exam <br />• pass a background investigation <br />• pass a firefighter agility test <br />• complete a probation period <br />• complete the requirement for basic firefighter training <br />• complete the requirement for first responder training <br />• be available for a reasonable number of fire calls, drills, and meetings <br />• within two years of hiring, certification for: <br />o Firefighter I & II Fire Service Certification <br />o Hazardous Materials – Operational Level o EMR or EMT <br />• successfully passes periodic cardiovascular fitness evaluation, respiratory function test, <br />and physical ability evaluation as prescribed by Fire Department standards. <br /> <br />Desirable Qualifications <br />• Motivating Others: Creates a climate in which people want to do their best; makes each <br />individual’s work feel important; is someone people like working for and with; able to <br />motivate direct reports, project members and a team; invites input and encourages <br />contribution; empowers others; effectively delegates by sharing responsibilities and <br />accountability. <br />• Command Skills: Relishes leading; takes calculated risks, when necessary, even when <br />unpopular; encourages differing opinions; is looked to for direction in a crisis; faces <br />adversity head on; is energized by tough challenges. <br />• Composure: Exhibits self-confidence and asserts self appropriately to advocate a point of <br />view; is cool under pressure; can be counted on to hold things together during tough <br />times; can handle stress; maintains balance even when unexpected circumstances arise;
