The City of Orono is an Equal Opportunity Employer <br /> <br />CITY OF ORONO <br /> <br />Position Title: Paid-On-Call (POC) Firefighter <br />Document Date: August 24, 2023 <br />Department: Fire <br />Accountable to: Fire Lieutenant <br />FLSA Status: Non-exempt <br /> <br />Nature of Work <br />The POC Firefighter will response to fire, hazmat, rescue, medical and other emergency <br />incidents. They will also participate in training, maintenance activities and provide fire and life <br />safety education to the public. <br /> <br />Supervision Received and Exercised <br />Work is supervised by their appointed Fire Lieutenant. This position is not responsible for <br />supervising other positions. <br />Examples of Work <br />Essential functions listed below are intended as illustrations of the various types of work that <br />may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them if the <br />work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. <br /> <br />• Responds to emergency medical calls with a company. Provides basic and/or <br />advanced level life support of patient care to ensure that life threatening situations <br />and potentially serious injuries are recognized and cared for appropriately. Ensures <br />patients are protected from additional hazards and transported to an appropriate <br />medical facility for treatment, as needed. Emergency Medical Technicians assist <br />Paramedics in their duties. Determines nature and extent of illness or injury and <br />prioritizes medical procedures and/or treatment plans. Lifts and moves patients. <br />Observes, records, and reports situation/status of patient to medical facility and/or <br />dispatch. Maintains ethical and legal standards. Is responsive and respectful to <br />patients, families and medical facility staff. <br />• Performs firefighting tasks, rescue operations, and other emergency response <br />actions, under stressful conditions, while wearing personal protective equipment <br />(PPE) and self- contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), which requires the ability to
