fill <br />fm <br />*W'\l-^i. <br />■U’c'v“^3 / . <br />,‘^hr <br />.‘.vI'Tm::- <br />I'i'-V-'i-fe <br />m <br />Mm <br />m <br />m <br />mSi <br />m <br />JjSM <br />The Rir»3 Route will bo nn attractive alternate traffic <br />route connecting downtown Mound to U.S. Highway 12 and <br />County Road No. 6, which are both major roadways to Minneapolis <br />and should draw a significant amount of traffic away front <br />'County Road 15. <br />One of Che concerns expressed at Public Hearings on this <br />Project was the traffic accident potential resulting from <br />the Increased traffic volume at the intersection of County <br />Road No. 6 and trunk Highway No. 12. At present, the Minnesota <br />Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is in the preliminary <br />design stage for plans to upgrade the intersection. When <br />constructed, the Improvements should eliminate any traffic <br />problems which may result from the increased traffic flow <br />generated by the construction of the Ring Route. <br />Construction of the intersection improvement is scheduled <br />to be completed in 1979. Construction includes installation <br />of passing lanes along the East and West bound Highway 12 <br />traffic lanes, the removal of the free right turn lane from <br />County Road No. 6 to West bound trunk Highway No. 12, and <br />the installation of an overhead flasher. <br />STATE AID FUNDING <br />Each year, Orono receives funds from the State Gas Tax <br />which in turn is used for street construction on Municipal <br />State Aid (MSA) streets within the City.
