At present, the Minnesota <br />Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is in the preliminary <br />design stage for plans to upgrade the intersection. When <br />constructed, the Improvements should eliminate any traffic <br />problems which may result from the increased traffic flow <br />generated by the construction of the Ring Route. <br />Construction of the intersection improvement is scheduled <br />to be completed in 1979. Construction includes installation <br />of passing lanes along the East and West bound Highway 12 <br />traffic lanes, the removal of the free right turn lane from <br />County Road No. 6 to West bound trunk Highway No. 12, and <br />the installation of an overhead flasher. <br />STATE AID FUNDING <br />Each year, Orono receives funds from the State Gas Tax <br />which in turn is used for street construction on Municipal <br />State Aid (MSA) streets within the City.
