In a similar way, establishing <br />a mixture of wet meadow/wet prairie grasses and forbs along wetland edges will help to minimize <br />competition with nonnative species such as purple loosestrife and reed canary. <br />Water Quality General Comments: <br />• Reducing the amount of fertilizers, fungicides, and herbicides applied to the turf will reduce the <br />probability to negatively impact water quality. Therefore, the choice of a low maintenance fairway <br />turfgrass such as kentucky bluegrass would be an improvement over a high maintenance turfgrass <br />such as bent grass. <br />• The plans show a buffer around all the wetlands. This will protect the water quality of the wetlands <br />by filtering sediments, increasing infiltration, and increasing plant uptake. However, the plans do not <br />show what type of plants are being used in the buffer strips or how the buffer strips are going to be <br />maintained. <br />• Putting greens require the most chemical and water inputs, and all putting greens (and sometimes tee <br />boxes) have a subsurface drainage system that quickly discharges excess water. This water has the <br />potential to contain high concentrations of dissolved chemicals. The plans do not show where each <br />green’s subsurface drainage system outlets. On holes with greens near wetlands, the drainage system <br />typically discharges directly into the adjacent wetland which negatively impacts the wetland’s water <br />quality and plant community. Treating green discharge will protect water quality. <br />Water Quality Hole*By-Hole Comments: <br />Holes #i. 4.7,11.16,17. & 18: <br />• OK <br />Hole #2; <br />• Extend silt fence north to protect erosion created by tee construction. <br />Hole #3; <br />• Storm sewer from parking lot and entrance road is short-circuited. <br />• Where is the green subsurface drainage outletting? <br />Hole #5; <br />• Extend silt fence to southeast comer of wetland 4 to protect from cart path construction. <br />• Extend silt fence around southern border of NURP pond 2. <br />• Where is green subsurface drainage outletting? <br />Hole #6: <br />• Extend sill fence along southwestern side of NURP pond #1 to protect ditch from erosion. <br />Hole #8; <br />• Add silt fence between cart path and wetland. <br />Hole #9: <br />• Add silt fence between tee and ditch along Tamarack Drive behind tee boxes. <br />• Where is green subsurface drainage outletting?
