Dana M. V\’alla
1397 Orono Lane
^Vayzata, Minnesota 55391
January 20, 1997
Dear Mayor Jabbour and CounciImembers;
I am writing you as a concerned citizen of Orono Lane and
tne proposed changes to our access with County Road #15.
The safety hazards at our intersection have become more
acute every year. Now the proposed changes are guaranteed to
cause more serious dangers, and more severe accidents. Pleaseiz rx
wnat is needed in order to get the necessary attention?
Ten years ago our neighborhood proposed an alternative
Road entrance East of the existing one.Clearly, the safest
solution. We were told it would not be possible to take the
wetlands. But, now it is 0. K. to take the wetlands for the
County Road. THIS MAKES NO SENSE! Further, Doug and Sue
Johnson, the owners of that land objected to the taking of their
property and threatened a law suit. So that proposal was dropped.
The i^roach to the Johnsons was one of confusion because •evcoi — " . -they werevconsulted. That was unfortunate and should not be
repeated. Never-the-less, it is not a good rear.on to abandon
the project. Actually, the legal ramifications of taking one's
land seem minor compared to the saftey ramifications of a county road.
The current plan appears to take a significant portion of
the but eliminates the right turn access lane we
order to keepan access lane, it would require
tne taking of even more wetlands. By moving the entrance of
Orono Lane to the East, the current entrance could be closed off
and return the existing asphalt to wetlands or trees.
I greatly fdvor a new Orono Lane entrance East of the
existing one. It seems the only safe way to comply with
good highway design and puts no further stress on the wetlands
than the existing plan with a right turn access lane.
Sincerely,
o. . L(J juU^
Enel. 1986 Proposal
