DEC 3 0 <br />December 23, 1996 <br />Mayor Gabriel Jabbour and Council Members <br />City Administration <br />2750 Kelley Parkway <br />Orono, MN 55356 <br />Dear Sirs: <br />We live at 1385 Orono Lane, and wish to address the Council regarding the <br />safety problem that we perceive at the intersection of Orono Lane and County <br />Road 15. As you know, there is a severe, blind turn on 15 just west of Orono <br />Lane. It is particularly worrisome to us as our 15 year old son picks up the <br />school bus at our corner. With the increased traffic in the last year, the <br />frequency of near collision situations has increased. <br />It's my understanding from our neighbors on Orono Lane that this issue has <br />been addressed by the Council on prior occasions. A proposal to move the <br />intersection east on Route 15, away from the blind corner, was reviewed by the <br />Council. No action was taken on the proposal. We would like to resurrect the <br />proposal or ask the Council to consider any other alternative to bring safety to <br />this Intersection. Given the Corps of Army Engineers plan to reconstruct <br />Highway 15 through this intersection, we believe it's an opportune time to <br />correct our corner. <br />Thank you for your attention to our concern. <br />Sincerely, <br />John & Karla Spooner <br />1385 Orono Lane <br />Orono.
