I »■ <br />Noise Ordinance <br />December 31, 1996 <br />Page 2 <br />Proposed Ordinance <br />The proposed ordinance is based on the LMC's model noise ordinance (with a significant number <br />of modifications) and is similar to noise ordinances adopted by Long Lake and Minnetonka Beach. <br />Features of the proposed ordinance include: <br />A 'Definitions' section <br />General noise standards, including reference to current State regulations and day/night <br />decibel level limits (these will normally only be used in situations where ongoing <br />noise level is a factor) <br />A detailed listing of'prohibited' noises <br />Hourly restrictions for certain common activities (these have been revised a number <br />of times during staff discussions) <br />An exception for emergency work <br />Administrative and enforcement sections, including testing procedures, investigation <br />and inspection provisions, and provisions for Noise Impact Statements prior to <br />allowing a potentially noisy use <br />The ordinance as drafted will eliminate certain existing code sections and amend others to be <br />consistent with the new ordinance. <br />Staff Recommendation <br />Staff recommends adoption of the attached ordinance. <br />4 <br />1
