1994 UNIFORM BUILDING CODE 205-207 . *. <br />*• <br />DISPENSING is the pouring or transferring of any material from a container, tank or similar <br />vessel, whereby vapors, dusts, fumes, mists or gases may be liberated to the atmosphere. <br />DISPERSAL AREA, SAFE. See Section 1021.2. <br />DRAFT STOP is a material, device or construction installed to restrict the movement of air with­ <br />in open spaces of concealed areas of building components such as crawl spaces, floor-ceiling as­ <br />semblies, roof-ceiling assemblies and attics. <br />DWELLING is any building or portion thereof which contains not more than two dwelling units. <br />DUELLING UNIT is any building or portion thereof which contains living facilities, including <br />provisions for sleeping, eating, cooking and sanitation, as required by this code, for not more than <br />one family, or a congregate residence for 10 or less persons. <br />SECTION 206 —E <br />EFFICIENCY DWELLING UNTT is a dwelling unit containing only one habitable room. <br />ELECTRICAL CODE is the National Electrical Code promulgated by the National Fire Pro- <br />A __fl_______Ilection Association, as adopted by this jurisdiction. <br />ELEVATOR CODE is the safety code for elevators, dumbwaiters, escalators and moving walks <br />as adopted by this jurisdiction (see Appendix Chapter 30). <br />EMERGENCY CONTROL STATION is an approved location on the premises of a Group H, <br />Division 6 Occupancy where signals from emergency equipment are received and which is continu­ <br />ally staffed by trained personnel. <br />EXISTING BUILDINGS. See “building, existing.” <br />EXIT. See Section 1001.2. <br />EXIT COURT. See Section 1001.2. <br />EXIT PASSAGEWAY. See Section 1001.2. <br />SECTION 207 —F <br />FABRICATION AREA (fab area) is an area within a Group H, Division 6 Occupancy in which <br />there are processes involving hazardous production materials and may include ancillary rooms or <br />areas such as dressing rooms and oRices that are directly related to the fab area processes. <br />FAMILY is an individual or two or more persons related by blood or marriage or a group of not <br />more than five persons (excluding servants) who need not be related by blood or marriage living <br />together in a dwelling unit. <br />FIRE ASSEMBLY. See Section 71.3.2. <br />FIRE CODE is the Uniform Fire Code promulgated by the International Fire Code Institute, as <br />adopted by this jurisdiction. <br />FIRE RESISTANCE or FIRE-RESISTIVE CONSTRUCTION is construction to resist the <br />spread of fire, details of which are specified In this code. <br />FIRE-RETARDANT-TREATED WOOD is any wood product impregnated with chemicals <br />by a pressure process or other means during manufacture, and which, when tested in accordance <br />with U.B.C. Standard 8-1 for a period of 30 minutes, shall have a flame spreaa of not over 25 and <br />show no evidence of progressive combustion. In addition, the flame front shall not progress more <br />than 10V2 feet (3200 mm) beyond the centerline of the burner at any time during the test. Materials <br />which may be exposed to the weather shall pass the accelerated weathering test and be identified as <br />Exterior type, in accordance with U.B.C. Standard 23-5. Where material is not directly exposed to <br />rainfall but exposed to high humidity conditions, it shall be subjected to the hygroscopic test and <br />identified as Interior Type A in accordance with U.B.C.
